Use USB drive as password

Using a general multi charactered password to access your PC is a bit risky especially if the PC has many important and confidential files. Getting to know a part of the password can be used to guess the password and access the system. There is a permanent solution to
this. You can use a personnel pen drive (of any build) to access the system.

This tutorial is about using your pen drive as your password to log into your computer without any third party software but by using a built in Windows feature. This feature stores a key into the pendrive. A user can log into the system only when this key is read and matched by the system.

1) Change the drive letter of your pen drive to A
(A is the drive letter generally assigned to Floppy Disk. So open Windows Disk Manager. Here information about the system hard disk partitions and removable disks will be shown. So right-click on your pen drive and select "Change Drive Letter And Paths". Now change the drive letter of the pen drive and assign A to it.)

2) Open run dialog box (windows + R)

3) Enter "syskey" in the run box. The syskey program will open where the encryption is enabled by default.

This program stores the startup key on floppy disk and that’s the reason why we have to change the drive letter of our pen drive to A because A and B represents floppy drives.

4) Now click on Update button. The following screen will appear:

5) Choose to Store Startup Key on Floppy Disk (A:) and click OK. Now a startup key will be stored in your pen drive.

At this stage the process is completed and the next time you boot into your machine you’ll require that pen drive to login.

NOTE: keep the pen drive safely and don't format it. Without this you can't login to your system. This is a windows SAM password if you break one time then it is not possible to restore it.
