Use android device as webcam

Every PC does not have inbuilt webcams. We can use our Android phones' rear camera as web cam. This prevents the requirement of buying an external webcam as we can use our Android phone as is substitute.
The method mentioned in this tutorial is not only handy but also proves to be a great alternative to an external webcam without spending even a penny.


"USB webcam" is one amongst those apps, using which we can turn our Android phone into a webcam for PC. Of the various other apps of similar kind in the market, I felt "USB webcam" to be more user friendly, efficient (occupies less memory in comparison to others), easy to install with not much of complex configurations. Other apps includes DroidCam, SmartCam,IP Webcam etc.

Follow the steps given below to get a webcam out of the Android Phone:

1. At first install your Android phones' drivers into your Pc.

2. Download and install USB webcam App on your Android Smartphone.

3. Also Download and install the USB Webcam desktop client in your PC.

4. To enable paring the device via USB, turn on the USB debugging on the android mobile. Find it from:
Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging
                                OR      
Setting->Developer option->USB debugging

5. Install the server setup on the PC and connect your phone to the PC via USB.

6. Now open the USB Server installed previously in PC as well as launch the USB client app installed on the Android mobile. Both the devices gets paired through these USB client app.


That’s all! You are done. Now you can use your Android mobile as webcam for PC via USB connection
