Android rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged  control or “Superuser” rights (known as "root access") within Android's subsystem.

Unlike the HTC and Nexus devices, Samsung doesn’t offer an official bootloader unlock system for its carrier-locked phones. The bootloader security may vary from carriers to carriers.
In the rooting process we will use odin tool. This tool  is developed to help its Samsung android smartphone users to update their firmwares. It is a very handy tool to flash a custom ROM. Flashing is a term that is part of the ever-growing mobile dictionary which means updating or modifying the firmware stored in the flash memory or the ROM of your smartphone. cybobytes.blogspot.com

You don’t need to be a tech expert to be able to use Odin. The complete process is described below:

Requirements:

1) Download ODIN from here.
2) Samsung Galaxy S4 device to be rooted

3) A PC (windows)

4) A USB connecting cable

Procedure:

Do not connect the Device to the PC until asked to do so.
1) Extract and run the exe file.
2) Click PDA button and select the root file when asked to.
  
 3) Switch off the device (S4). Now hold the power and volume up buttons to enter download mode.cybobytes.blogspot.com
4) Connect the Galaxy S4 to the PC and click the Start button in ODIN.
5) ODIN will hang on for a moment and tell if your phone is supported for automatic root. Most of the devices are supported and it will push the file over. Once you’ve seen the SuperUser Android logo, you've got root installed.
6) Reboot the phone, and you’re (hopefully) done.
