Reduce the Display Brightness:

A brighter screen display will obviously consume greater energy from the battery. Apart from this it also reduces the lifespan of the screen.
To slide your display brightness to low, all you have to do is follow the simple process:

     Go to Settings.
     Go to Display.
     Tap Brightness and adjust it

The lower the value the better it is. And you can definitely change it whenever you’re in need.

Turn off Data Transfer:

Using data connection provided by your cellular network drains a food amount of battery. It is always fascinating to stay always online to receive replies, Facebook messages and mails. However, this is what causes your device to consume a significant amount of charge. To avoid this turn data traffic off.
Here are the steps to turn data traffic off:

    Go to Settings.
    Tap on Wireless & Networks.
Scroll down and tap on Mobile Networks.
Tap on Data Enabled to uncheck the box.

While the box is unchecked, the phone is not permitted to transfer any data over the cellular network. There are many free widgets available in the play store which will let you turn on/off data traffic right from the home screen.

Turn off Wi-Fi:

If you weren’t relying on your cellular network for Internet access on your device, chances are you were using Wi-Fi network. Well, if the Internet is not being used constantly, turning the Wi-Fi receiver off would help save battery. Wi-Fi receiver consumes a good amount of battery power.
To turn off Wi-Fi,

       go to Wireless & networks,
       uncheck the WiFi box.

Again, play store has got a good number of wifi switch widgets which will let you turn on/off data traffic right from the home screen.

Turn off GPS:

Global Positioning System GPS drains a huge amount of battery. It also might be possible that few apps installed in your device constantly sends details of your location.
To turn off GPS,

        go to Settings,
tap on Location & Security, and
        uncheck GPS option.

Conclusion

These aren’t definitely the only ways to protect your Android device from draining battery charge more than necessary. There are background apps running that you probably don’t need. There are even some apps that do the job of reducing battery power consume for you. But I don’t use or recommend them to anyone. Read my post on avoiding task managers.
